The Volunteer Moderator is responsible for helping to create and maintain safe, welcoming, inclusive, and positive online environments across Esports Wales community platforms. The role supports the moderation of Discord servers, livestream chat, social media communities, and other digital spaces, ensuring participants can engage respectfully and safely. Volunteer Moderators act as community role models and help uphold the standards, values, and rules of Esports Wales.
Key Responsibilities
- Moderate Discord servers, livestream chats, community forums, and other approved online platforms.
- Enforce community guidelines, codes of conduct, and platform rules fairly and consistently.
- Monitor conversations and interactions to help ensure a positive and respectful community environment.
- Respond appropriately to disruptive behaviour, inappropriate content, harassment, bullying, or rule violations.
- Escalate incidents, disputes, and community concerns to the Community Manager where required.
- Maintain accurate records of moderation actions and significant incidents.
- Support community events, tournaments, livestreams, and online activities through active moderation and participant engagement.
- Welcome new members and help signpost community opportunities, events, and resources.
- Promote Esports Wales values of inclusion, respect, fairness, and positive participation across all community spaces.
Safeguarding & Compliance
- Immediately report safeguarding concerns to the Community Manager or Designated Safeguarding Lead (DSL) and never investigate concerns independently.
- Maintain appropriate boundaries at all times and avoid private one-to-one communication with children or young people unless specifically authorised and safeguarded.
- Ensure online spaces remain safe, respectful, and suitable for participants of all backgrounds.
- Follow all safeguarding, online safety, volunteer, and community management policies.
- Escalate concerns rather than attempting to resolve safeguarding or welfare matters independently.

Desirable Skills & Experience
- Experience moderating online communities such as Discord, Twitch, YouTube, Reddit, or social media platforms.
- Understanding of esports and gaming communities.
- Experience working with volunteers, community groups, or youth activities.
- Welsh language skills.
- Knowledge of online safety and digital safeguarding practices.
