Developing your committee

A CLUB SHOULD ALWAYS BE IMPROVING IT’S COMMITTEE

SHARE THE WORKLOAD

Reviewing the roles of your committee members can be beneficial, especially if one person is handling most of the work while others are eager to take on more responsibilities.

Committee members often juggle multiple roles, such as coaching and fulfilling committee duties. To prevent anyone from becoming overwhelmed, consider redistributing responsibilities. Is the workload reasonable for one person? Do you need an additional committee member to help?

TRAINING AND SUPPORT

To maintain a healthy supply of volunteers, ensure they feel supported. Check out our supporting volunteers section for more information on providing adequate training and support.

PAYING COMMITTEE MEMBERS

Consider whether your organization wants (and has the constitutional authority) to pay committee members for their roles instead of recruiting them as volunteers.

Think carefully about the implications of paying board members, both for the organization and for the roles and responsibilities of the individual committee members.

By continuously evaluating and enhancing your committee, you can ensure a balanced workload, well-supported volunteers, and a robust governance structure.
