Congratulations to Swansea Esports Society for being named National Student Esports (NSE) Society of the Month for September 2024! The society was recognised for their standout Freshers’ Fair stand, which impressed NSE and the wider esports community.
‘Hectic’, the President of Swansea Esports Society, who shared some insights on the society’s Freshers’ Fair experience, their plans for the upcoming academic year, and their excitement for new events.
Freshers’ Fair Success
Though President Hectic was unable to attend the Freshers’ Fair due to a university field trip, the event ran smoothly thanks to the leadership of Events Coordinator Ben Holland. Hectic praised his committee for their hard work and seamless execution, emphasizing how grateful he was to his team:
“I couldn’t ask for more from my committee family, they nailed it.”
The stand attracted significant interest from new students, kicking off the year with a wave of enthusiasm.
Building a Stronger Community
Looking ahead, Swansea Esports Society plans to focus on organizing more social events to foster connections between members from different gaming communities. According to Hectic, it’s all about creating opportunities for players from various titles to connect with each other: “Our plan is to pump out more general socials… we want to have a stronger link as a society overall.”
The society is also excited to continue collaborating with XP Gaming, a local gaming bar that has been supportive of their events. XP Gaming offers a dedicated PC room, which will be used for future tournaments and gaming sessions.
Socials at XP Gaming Bar
Their first social event of the year at XP Gaming Bar was a huge success. Although the team was initially unsure how many new members would attend, they were thrilled with the turnout. The relaxed atmosphere, complete with Nintendo Switch stations and a darts area, allowed new members to feel comfortable and welcomed into the society.
“It all worked out pretty well!” Hectic shared, reflecting on the night.
Competitive Season Ahead
As for competitive gaming, Swansea Esports Society is preparing to compete across various titles, with a special focus on Rainbow Six Siege (R6). Hectic, an Overwatch player himself, expressed his excitement for the season and gave a special shout-out to their talented R6 team: “Good luck to all the R6 teams out there, you are gonna need it!”
Looking Forward
With a strong start to the academic year, Swansea Esports Society is set for a fantastic season, full of exciting events, social opportunities, and fierce competition. Stay tuned to hear more about their upcoming tournaments and collaborations with XP Gaming as they continue to build an engaging and inclusive esports community.
Once again, congratulations to Swansea Esports Society for being named NSE’s Society of the Month! We can’t wait to see what you achieve next.
