Approved Esports Qualifications in Wales

Esports Wales supports a defined set of recognised education pathways delivered in Wales. These qualifications align with national education frameworks and provide learners with clear progression routes into further and higher education, as well as the esports industry.

Important note
Esports Wales is not an awarding body and does not approve individual centres. The qualifications listed below are those that Esports Wales recognises and supports as appropriate pathways for esports education in Wales. These include certificates, short courses, training programmes, and individual units.  

Recognised Qualifications

Agored Cymru Level 3 Award in Esports Leaderships

 

Levels: 3

 
Delivered by: Short course delivered by Schools and Further Education colleges across Wales. Written by Esports Wales, it provides baseline knowledge for people working in the industry. 
 
Typical progression routes:
  • Esports Industry Work
  • Further Education study 
  • Higher Education study

Pearson BTEC Esports

 

Levels: 1, 2, 3, 4 and 5

 
Delivered by: Schools and Further Education colleges across Wales
The Pearson BTEC Esports suite forms the core mainstream esports education pathway in Wales. These qualifications are widely delivered and focus on a blend of esports knowledge, transferable skills, health and wellbeing, events, media, and industry awareness.

UAL Diploma in Esports (Creative Pathway)

Levels: 2 and 3
 
Delivered by: Selected Further Education providers
The UAL Esports pathway supports learners interested in the creative and production aspects of esports, including content creation, media, event delivery, and creative industries. These qualifications are typically offered where esports aligns closely with creative education.

  • Creative and digital industries
  • Further or Higher Education in creative subjects

Foundation Degree (FdA) in Esports

 

Levels: 4 and 5

 
Validated by: University of South Wales
 
Delivered in partnership with: Welsh Further Education colleges
 
The Foundation Degree in Esports represents the highest consistently delivered esports qualification currently available in Wales. It provides a higher‑education pathway focused on industry practice, professional skills, and applied learning.
 
Typical progression routes:
  • Employment within esports and related industries
  • Further study (top‑up degrees where available)
