Attracting Volunteers

ATTRACTING VOLUNTEERS

Volunteers are the backbone of grassroots esports. They generously offer their free time to foster community spirit, share expertise, and make our esports club possible.

However, we understand that people’s lives are busier than ever, making it harder to attract volunteers. Therefore, it is crucial to ensure our esports club has a strong volunteering culture.

How to Create a Volunteering Culture

In addition to following core principles, here are several actions you can take to inspire volunteers:

Set Expectations

Clearly outline volunteering expectations for new members. Most people are willing to help if they know what’s involved, when, and for how long.

Be Positive

Leadership should set the tone by positively supporting those who volunteer and encouraging others. Avoid using guilt or shame to motivate volunteers.

Just Ask

Don’t hesitate to ask for help with specific roles or tasks. Personal requests work best, but also utilize your club’s website or social media pages.

Leverage Skills

Identify and record the specific skills of your members or their parents. This way, you can assign tasks to the right individuals as needs arise.

Be Flexible

Some people might not want to take on large roles due to time constraints. Consider breaking down bigger tasks or creating a rota to share the workload.

Offer Training

Opportunities to learn new skills, such as First Aid or coaching, can motivate people to get involved. Promote and encourage participation in training sessions.

Show Appreciation

A simple ‘thank you’ or public acknowledgment can go a long way. Make sure to thank volunteers personally and publicly to inspire others to get involved.
