Club Committees

WHAT DOES THE COMMITTEE DO?

A dynamic and effective committee (or board) is important to drive a club forward.

A committee will make decisions on behalf of the club and will take on duties to ensure everything runs smoothly. It’s purpose is to serve the club members.

This means you need the right people with the right skills, the right experience and lots of enthusiasm in order to help the club progress.

WHO DO YOU NEED ON A COMMITTEE?

As the club develops you may wish to consider recruiting people into the following roles:

  1. Chairperson
  2. Secretary
  3. Treasurer
  4. Game Managers
  5. Social Media/Marketing Officer
  6. Admin
Even though it’s not a paid role, it’s a good idea to draft role descriptions. It will help people understand what is required of them and it will help you to identify what skills and experience you need for each role.
You can use these as the basis of your job descriptions.

DON’T JUST RELY ON ONE OR TWO INDIVIDUALS

Unfortunately, clubs often end up relying on one or two people to take on a lot of the work.  It’s a good idea to spread the workload and ask others to take on more responsibility. That way, you are more likely to avoid burnout and retain your volunteers for longer.

Check to see if your Committee Members are overburdened, are they taking on too many tasks for their role?

Refer back to the job discriptions you have written to identify the roles committe members have. You can use these to identify what tasks may need to be shared to others.
